Social Networking...

Me? My children do that, I’m an author!

Yes, you should join as many Social Networking groups as you feel comfortable joining. What you (and your book) are after is exposure. There are quite a few of them including; MySpace (www.myspace.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com), Twitter (www.twitter.com) as well as a more business oriented group like LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com).

Look at the different “groups” you can join in Yahoo, Google, AOL and others. These are online groups you can join from the comfort of your home in your pj’s and slippers.

A rule of thumb when you join a social networking group; your ultimate goal might be to get yourself and your book some exposure, but you need to give value to the group as you do so. Make some comments and contribute to the discussions. It's been said (only a rumor) that the author of Twilight (http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilightseries.html) was virtually unknown until she began a social networking blitz. Seems to have worked for her!

You can also check with your local community library for Writer’s Clubs as well. I’ve been invited to speak to 2 different writer’s groups about Self Publishing your book.

If you want a quick month-by-month overview of what’s taken place with Social Networking in 2008, here’s a link:

Do you have a blog about your book? There are many that are free and easy to set up. Consider: http://www.WordPress.com

Start a blog or write an ezine article (http://ezinearticles.com) about the subject matter of your book and end with a link to where your book is being sold on your website or on Amazon.com
