Proofing Stage

Opps, I messed up. Can you help me...

OK, we are not perfect, we’re humans. So what happens when things don’t go as planned? Let’s start with what we do as your production team to safeguard your job against what might go wrong. We run your files as you have them set up, we look for any and all things that might go wrong before we print, we even proof it back to you for your approval before we “go to press” for the final run.

Let’s talk about that “proof” stage. That’s the opportunity given to you and is your final look to make sure it’s exactly what you want. If it is NOT exactly what you want, then DO NOT sign the proof. That’s the first place to raise a RED FLAG. That’s the place to correct the problem before it becomes 500 problems (or whatever your print run is). If you sign a proof and you missed something, then we still want to help correct the problem, but the financial responsibility resides with you (you signed it). So when things don’t go as you want the first thing we look at is your signed, approved proof. Does the signed, approved proof match the finished product? We want to do all we can to prevent a problem, but things can still go wrong.

Another thing that can compound the problem is time, or lack of time (see article on “Time: Friend or Foe”). Often the project gets pushed back against a deadline that would require immediate turn around. This isn’t giving any time for potential file problems, missing fonts that aren’t embedded or RGB colors that would set the project back even more. BTW: this is NOT what is meant by Print on Demand: “I give you files Friday at 4:30 and I DEMAND finished books in Florida Monday morning at 8:00 a.m.” (Sorry, we’re probably not your best option in this situation.)

So how can we help you get your project as you need it; when you need it. It starts with contact to see what your needs are. Tell us when your project is due; where you are in the process; if you need help with preparing your files for “Print Ready” production. If you have questions, we’ve seen it before and can help.
