Research:
a)
Search variety of records: printed, written, oral, photos, objects, sites.
b)
Family Records: --personal, close and distant relatives, archives
and libraries.
c)
Non-Family: --government (tax, property, military, census), church,
community (yearbooks, newspapers, rosters), organizations (lodges,
boards, clubs)
d)
Reliability: ask, "Why should I trust this record?" Best
records are 1st hand, closest to the event. Rely on 2 or more sources.
e)
Notetaking: each item of information on separate sheet, avoid
overquoting, list source of information, create file system for notes
(like file folders or large envelopes)
