Creed Stolen from 1913...

I was in a department store (clue) and read a sign that was a “creed looking thing” adopted way back in 1913 (clue). I was waiting near the restrooms and corporate offices (clue) when I read some of the wall plaques about this company, its philosophies and early beginnings. After reading the “creed” I took my cell phone camera and stole a snapshot.

Here’s the text:

· To serve the public as nearly as we can to its complete satisfaction.

· To expect for the service we render, a fair remuneration and not all the profit the traffic will bear.

· To do all in our power to pack the customer’s dollar full of value, quality and satisfaction.

· To continue to train ourselves and our associates so that the service we give will be more and more intelligently performed.

· To improve constantly the human factor in our business.

· To reward the men and women in our organization through participation in what the business produces.

· To test our every policy, method and act in this wise: “Does it square with what is right and just.”

-----------------------

I can say that this should be every company’s thinking, and I can say it’s good as a “stand alone” creed—meaning you won’t go wrong adopting it as your own. As we work together, hopefully you will be treated with all the above and kindness too.

The J.C. Penney Idea / Adopted 1913 (one source reports it was written in 1905 by James Cash Penney).
