Black
text may be a Red Flag
What
color is your Black text? (No this isnt a trick question.) Is
it called Automatic? The RED flag is the color of your Black text.
Running
a book with color pictures spread throughout the book is OK.
That
means the book runs on the color press. What we need to make sure is
that the text is a true black only and not a supported black. If when
you highlight a word and check its color it needs to say BLACK
and not Automatic. The reason for this is that we can charge a black
only charge for the pages that are only black. This helps the
pricing. It also helps in the prep or rip time. It makes for a
smaller cleaner file and cleaner text. Theres less chance of
one of the colors hanging out of registration. Yes, even on a digital
press. Im sure half of these words are not making sense to the
person who only knows how to turn on their computer and type the words.
So,
before you start typing your entire book, type the first word and
lets find out. Highlight the first word. Go to the A
in the Font menu and check to see what color it is. Default or
Automatic is all the colors. Change it to Black and youre set.
If
youve finished typing; do a select all and then go
the A in the font menu and change it to Black and
youre done!
FYI:
The time to check the color of the Black Text is before it hits the
press. Automatic is the wrong black. You need to select the text and
make sure its true black. Q: Why would a word processor have a
supported black for text in the first place?? Easy. Printing at home
on your ink jet helps with the richness of the words. It also uses up
all the ink more evenly.
